Philadelphia Flyers vs New York Islanders (paul D riggio)

Tonight’s game featured some NHL action as the Philadelphia Flyers play host their Atlantic Division rivals, the New York Islanders. Coming into the game, the Flyers have beaten the Islander 13 straight times and they hope to build upon that streak tonight.

The first goal of the game came at the 11:48 mark. Receiving a pass from #36 Darroll Powe, Flyers’ right wing man # 48 Danny Briere was able to score amidst a slight scramble. The Flyers dominated the offensive position in the 1st period, limiting the Islander to 10 shot attempts while they, themselves, took 16 shots. At the 3:30 mark of the first period, #19 Scott Hartnell scored his 12th goal of the season as he was assist by #18 Mike Richards and #44 Kimmo Timonen. His goal came within a power-play opportunity.

The start of the 2nd period exemplified elegance, grace, and a lot of flair without much result. It was a struggle to score, by the Islanders against a struggle to get possession, by the Flyers. The Islanders spread out their offense, and dominated the passion of the puck.

The 2nd period was a more competitive period for the Islanders, scoring at the 5:16 mark. The goal was score by # 12 Josh Bailey, his 13th of the season and was assisted by #21 Kyle Okposo and #13 Rob Schremp.

To the fan’s dismay, only a few fisticuffs occurred. The refs kept control of the game but the game became a lot more physical towards the end of the 2nd period and the entire 3rd period. The Islanders were unable to score on various power-play opportunities and ended up dropping their 14th straight against the Flyers. The final score of the game: 2-1, Flyers.
