Mickey Vernon Musuem - JT

Today January 16, 2010 the SPM 305 Sports Media Relations class of Wilmington University met at the Mickey Vernon Musuem or the Del County Hall of Fame for sports. The students met up with a tour guide, Jim VanKoskie. Jim took the class into a room specifically for Paul Arizin. Paul Arizin and Mickey Vernon had some similarities between them. Both of them never played high school sports and they became professionals. They both won two individual titles. Paul won 2 scoring titles in the NBA, Mickey a two time batting titlist. Jim also went on to enlighten the class that Harry O’ Neil played one half inning in the majors and never got an at bat. In the room we watched two movies. One of which was from Mickey Vernon and Joe Klecko. Mickey Vernon was a 7 time All-Star. He was the only player to carry around a Kodak video camera around to capture actions from the big leaguers for memories. Joe Klecko was a hard nosed tackle for the Jets. He made it as an All-Pro in three defensive line man positions. The class was then guided up two flights of stairs to find more memorabilia. At the bottom of the first flight of stairs there was a World Series game worn jersey that Mike Scioscia of the Angels who donated to the musuem. The visit was very impowering. It would give the students a background of sports in the Delaware area.
