January 15, 2010: Philadelphia 7ers vs Sacramento Kings (Paul D Riggio)

For our Sports Media class, we took a visit to the 76ers vs Kings game. Before tip-off, the class met Tom McGinnis, a radio play-by-play announcer of the philadelpia 76ers, and Anthony Gilbert, a feature writer for the 76ers and manager Samuel Dalembert’s website. As the Kings hit the court for pre-game shootaround, one can notice a certain buzz around Sacramento’s guard, rookie phenom Tyreke Evans. NBA TV is here, doing a cover story on the once, Philadelphia native, who has come back to claim victory over this Philadelphia squad. But also tonight there is an even more storyline for night for 76ers center, Samuel Dalembert. In the wake of all the horror surrounding the earthquake in Haiti, Dalembert plans on donating $100,000 of his money to a Unisef, along with the 76ers organization who, tonight is collecting donations from any giving heart.

As for the game, the 76ers opened up with a 5-0 lead early on. The kings than battled back to make it a competitive contest as they took the lead at the 7:44 mark, but it was the 76ers who ended up with the lead, closing out the first quarter with a comfortable 32-25 score. One item to note is the injury of all-star hopeful, Andre Iguodala, going down in the first. He has since return in the second quarter, but with limited offensive contribution. At the end of the second, the score is 49-47, 76ers with the lead. The leading scorer for the 76ers has been Thadeous Young with 12. And for the kings Spencer Hawes and Kevin Martin have both contributed with 9 points each.
